"Memory is deceptive because it is colored by today's events."

Albert Einstein

The amazing daughter of an alumnus from the 1920s named Marshall Milton was kind enough to scan and send us his complete college scrapbook.  We have had so much fun looking through this amazing book of memories that I wanted to share some of the pictures.

"Clothes make the man. Naked people have little or no influence on society."

 ~Mark Twain

Looking through the boxes of old pictures and uniforms, we came across some interesting old KWU letter sweaters.  To be honest, we laughed and talked about how ugly and scratchy they were…

Then the daughter of an alumnus who attended KWU in the 1920s so graciously sent us a scanned digital copy of her dad’s scrapbook and as I looked through the pictures I saw the sweater (or at least very similar sweaters)!

The team pictured above is the football team sometime from 1923 to 1925.  After seeing this picture of these young men so proudly wearing their sweaters, I don’t see an ugly sweater anymore.  I see a great piece of Kansas Wesleyan University history.

"If opportunity doesn't knock, build a door..."

Milton Berle

When my wonderful Associate Librarian, Kate, and I put these frustrating, sticky, pain-in-the-rear letters on the door of the archives (pictured above) I thought to myself, “Is this really necessary?  Do we need to label this room?”

Once they were up, I realized that we do, not only because space is of a premium here at KWU and we had to mark our territory, but because it makes this room and this project an official  part of the Kansas Wesleyan University landscape.  Plus, they look really nice!

I worked on organizing some pictures last Friday, and found that we have so many great photos that have been kept through the past 125 years, but no one bothered to label them.  Now that everything is digital, this isn’t such an issue.   If you have photos sitting around at home, label them, make a scrapbook, anything, so that later, when you aren’t around, it can serve as an important memory to others!

Shelves are in...let the archiving begin!!

The shelves have been installed in the archive room! This means we can really dig in and start organizing all of the materials we have found for the archives just in time for the kick off of our year-long 125th Anniversary Celebration!  Now if we can just get some stuff on those shelves...
